Metal Building Color Selection

Metal Building Color Chart & Finish Guide

Use this color chart as a reference when selecting wall, roof, and trim colors for your ForgeFab building package. Final color approvals should always be based on physical samples and project-specific manufacturer data.

Color appearance will vary by screen, printer, and lighting conditions. Use this chart for coordination and RFQs, then confirm with physical chips before finalizing.
Using the Color Chart
How to Apply Colors to Your Building Package

The ForgeFab color chart shows commonly used panel and trim finishes available through our building supply chain. When you’re preparing an RFQ or coordinating with your design team, use the chart to:

  • Select preferred colors for roof, walls, and trim.
  • Note any alternate or “acceptable equal” colors for bidding.
  • Flag projects that may benefit from lighter, higher-reflectance roof colors.
  • Coordinate door and accessory colors with the main building palette.

If a project has specific energy-code, reflectance, or finish requirements (SR, SRI, LEED, etc.), let us know in your RFQ and we’ll align the building color options with the appropriate manufacturer data.

Color Strategy
Practical Notes for Commercial & Infrastructure Projects

Color on a commercial building is more than just aesthetics—especially on utility and infrastructure work. When you’re choosing a color scheme, keep these points in mind:

  • Roof vs. Wall Colors: Lighter roof colors can help manage heat gain and may support owner energy goals. Walls can typically carry darker or brand-driven tones.
  • Trim & Framing: Trim colors are often used to control visual “noise” at corners, eaves, and openings. A neutral trim can calm a busy site; a contrasting trim can highlight entry points.
  • Site Context: On industrial campuses or treatment plants, it’s common to match or complement existing structures rather than introduce a completely new palette.
  • Owner Standards: Some owners and utilities have pre-approved color families. If that applies, send us their standards document or sample photos with your RFQ.
  • Submittals & Approvals: Final color names and finish systems will be confirmed in the building submittal package. Physical samples can be provided for owner review when needed.

Sample Color Pairings for ForgeFab Buildings

These sample pairings show how roof, wall, and trim colors can work together on U-Series and S-Series buildings. Use them as a starting point—then match them to specific colors on the chart.

Neutral Operations Palette
Deep wall color with light roof & trim
Common on U-Series utility buildings where the structure should read clean and professional without drawing too much attention on site.
Industrial Storage Palette
Neutral walls with darker roof
Works well on S-Series storage and operations buildings where blending with existing plant structures or warehouses is important.
Highlighted Entry Palette
Accent color for key features
Reserve a brighter accent for canopies, door frames, or key elevations where wayfinding and visibility matter.
